On arrival & aboard
- At the dock
- The import permit must be presented at the port of entry. The application must state the animal's age, sex, colour and breed.
Quarantine
The Ministry document does not mention quarantine. Absence of a statement is not an exemption — confirm with the Veterinary Department before you sail.confidence: Unknown. Not located in any source yet.
Open questions
High priority
- HIGH PRIORITY — the Ministry document is scoped to arrivals from the United States. A yacht clearing in from Trinidad, St Vincent, Carriacou or anywhere else in the chain is not covered by it. Confirm with the Veterinary Department on (473) 440-2708 which requirements apply to your actual last port. This is the single most likely way for a cruiser to be caught out here.
Also open
- The document is dated February 2017 and is served from the embassy in Washington rather than a gov.gd domain. Obtain the current version from the Veterinary Department and confirm provenance.
- No microchip requirement, minimum age, rabies titer, parasite treatment or permit fee is mentioned anywhere in the document. Several of those would be unusual to omit, so treat their absence as a gap in the source rather than as an exemption.
- Quarantine is not mentioned at all. Since it is the requirement most likely to change a cruising plan, confirm it directly.
- The process described is fax-based, with a return fax number requested for the signed permit. Confirm whether email to livestock@gov.gd is now accepted, since few yachts carry a fax.
- Nothing addresses an animal that stays aboard and never lands, so no transit section is authored here. Grenada is where many boats sit out the season, so an animal may be aboard for months without landing.
