Caribbean Cruising with PetsEntry rules for cats & dogs arriving by boat

Read this before you rely on anything here

Terms & limitations

This guide exists because pet-entry rules for the Caribbean are scattered, often out of date, and occasionally contradictory. It is a research aid that shows its working — not an authority, and not a substitute for asking the people who decide whether your animal comes ashore.

What this is

A source-graded reference covering pet entry requirements for 46 Caribbean destinations, written for people arriving by private yacht with cats and dogs. Every high-stakes requirement is cited to a source, and marked with how much confidence that source justifies.

What this is not

  • Not legal advice. Nothing here creates a professional relationship or substitutes for a lawyer.
  • Not veterinary advice. Vaccination and treatment decisions belong with your veterinarian.
  • Not official guidance. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for any government, agriculture department, customs service or veterinary authority.
  • Not clearance. No page here permits an animal to cross a border. Only the destination's authorities can do that.

How the information is produced

Requirements are researched from official government sources where they can be reached, and from secondary sources where they cannot. Each fact carries a confidence grade so you can see how much weight it bears:

  • Confirmed — an official source states it explicitly and a human reviewer has verified it.
  • Inferred — an official source backs it, but no human has certified it yet.
  • Secondary — only a non-government source states it.
  • Conflicting — sources disagree, and we show that rather than picking a winner.
  • Unknown — we could not find it. Shown as a visible gap, never hidden.

At the time of writing, no requirement on this site is graded “confirmed.” Everything is an unverified draft awaiting human review. Treat every figure as a lead to check, not a fact to rely on.

No warranty

This guide is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the information is accurate, complete, current or fit for any particular purpose. Requirements change without notice; sources go stale, move, or are simply wrong. A page that was right last month may be wrong today.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss, cost, delay, penalty, refusal of entry, quarantine, injury to an animal, or other harm arising from reliance on this site.

Your responsibility

Before you sail, verify every requirement directly with the relevant authority for your destination — and do it early enough to act on the answer. Some requirements, particularly rabies antibody titers, take months to satisfy. Each destination page lists the contacts we found; use them.

You are responsible for your animal's welfare and for complying with the law of every jurisdiction you enter. Penalties in some destinations on this route include refusal of entry, confiscation, quarantine at your expense, and euthanasia.

Community trip reports

Trip reports are travellers' personal accounts, published only after a moderator approves them. Moderation checks that a report is on-topic and civil — it does not verify that anything in the report is true or current. Reports are the author's own experience and opinion, not our guidance, and are shown separately from the cited requirements for that reason.

Do not post other people's personal information. We may remove any report at any time.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we want to fix it — an error in this material has real consequences for a real animal. Corrections backed by an official source are especially welcome, and the underlying data is public and version-controlled, so every change is auditable.
